Remember, Remember

The Victor of the 105th Hunger Games
Serena Pierce

District Ten
Kill Count: 5

Second Place: Minerva Li
District Two
Kill Count: 3

Minerva's death was something that infuriated Lucius Li. His daughter - strong and brave and a Victor - practically asked for the syringe to die easily. Why didn't she fight? He couldn't answer that. He felt disgusted and ashamed. When her coffin came about, in a fit of rage, Lucius denied that she was his and slammed the door in his face. Minerva was then burned in the Capitol and stored away. Days later, when anger faded into sadness, Lucius regretted his actions but it was too late. Regulus, shamed for not volunteering, was allowed back home. He lost one child, he needed to save the other before he regretted that too.

Third Place: Percival Harlin
District Four
Kill Count: 3

When news of his death drifted to his parents - Nathaniel and Delta's - they were beyond shocked but moved on easily. His mother believed a good mother-son bond was built on material objects, whilst his father believed that the Capitol and Hunger Games were right. Delta threw herself more into her social life, whilst Nathaniel worked harder at his shop. Both didn't want to revel in Percival's death. His death also hit the ears of his many girlfriends, who each cried their false tears before moving on easily. Percival's body was burned at sea, a District Four burial tradition.

Fourth Place: Theon Sykes
District Six
Kill Count: 1

When Theon was attacked by the mother lion, Savannah forced her children from the room. Panem might've made her watch, but her children didn't need to. She sat there, cradling her head and crying as his death was confirmed. He was so close. She would've been able to kiss and hug him once more. Keane and Robyn would've had their daddy back to play with. Now, Keane would never get to play sports with his father. Robyn would never get to bring her first boyfriend home for approval from the greatest man in her life. Theon died, but so did his children's life.

Fifth Place: Terris Avar
District Three
Kill Count: 1

His own father couldn't recognise him. Octave Avar looked down on his son's tiny coffin and felt his heart constricted. He had done him proud, and after the bloodbath, Octave had bragged about his son's knowledge for explosions and chances for survival. Noral, his mother, was sad to see her son die, but thought it best. District Three had always viewed Terris as a flight-risk, and whilst Octave was proud, Noral was more worried about the response. His coffin was buried in the local District Three graveyard, attended by his close friends and family.

Sixth Place: Laurel Aston
District Seven
Kill Count: 0

Laurel's small gang - Alder, Brielle and Aro - couldn't tear their eyes away from Laurel's death. The three clung close together, watching it from a bar's television. Brielle cried. Aro was sick to his stomach. Alder felt guilty; he had dared Laurel to take tesserae, and that was her downfall. Her parents and younger sister Alanni decorated Laurel's coffin with flowers and leaves, a homage to her name and lifestyle. She was buried at Seven's local cemetery, which her friends would visit everyday. Laurel would never know that Alder's guilt consumed him, and he volunteered himself a year later to his death.

Seventh Place: Kit Felix
District One
Kill Count: 1

Kit's death caused his mother, Vixen, to slip into depression. Her only child was killed, pushed into the Hunger Games by her husband, Symbol. She couldn't stand the sight of him. She never left her bed, encouraged by a husband she could only learn to despise. Nobody collected Kit's body and, just when it was about to be shipped off, Kit's trainer, Haste, quickly claimed it. He was always a better father than Symbol was. Taking his best student, Haste buried Kit within his own garden. Eventually, Vixen would regain her senses and leave her husband, falling into the welcoming arms of Haste. Together, they mourned a child they both loved.

Eighth Place: Bracken Mathis
District Eleven
Kill Count: 0

They didn't think he'd actually do it. When Bracken, wild-eyed and flustered, threatened to commit suicide to spite the Capitol, they brushed his comments away. Bay, his best friend, even made a joke in order to ease the tension. But he did it. He killed himself, and the backlash was unreal. He became a martyr without wanting to, and District Eleven cheered his name. He became an urban legend, the boy who defied them all. He would never realise that his actions brought about a new courage to a weakened district.

Ninth Place: Justice Florence
District Six
Kill Count: 1

Her father, Eugene, was proud. He had hoped one day that she would fulfil his legacy of working in the morgue, and finally, watching her experiment and cut open Ewan brought a sick smile to his face. His baby was growing up in the one place he hoped she would never end up in. Alas, she did, and he watched her spiral into darkness. District Six flew into an uproar. A monster, they had deemed her before she died. Someone attacked Eugene on his way home from work. Her mother, Jacqueline, was threatened. Justice might've grown up, but it came at a price. Her coffin was buried at the local graveyard, where people would spend evenings treating her like a ghost, chanting her name three times to see if she would come and experiment on them.

Tenth Place: Katerine "Katey" Holloway
District Twelve
Kill Count: 0

Katey's death shook the small group of people she had called her best friends. Whilst her parents, Remus and Everline, mourned in their own ways, so did her friends. Ryan, Mariale and Lydea made their way to Katey's grave late at night, sitting down and talking about the better times they had together. Katey was the glue that held them together . She'd miss out on Lydea falling pregnant only two years later, struggling to afford everything. Mariale falling in love with Ryan, and Ryan only ever seeing Katey - the girl he secretly loved - when he looked at his girlfriend.

Eleventh Place: India Cross
District Five
Kill Count: 0

India's coffin was returned to District Five, accompanied by Cordelia. Her family broke into tears, having not long lost their child. India would never know that her younger sister, Zambia, had died whilst she was in the Capitol. Her body was buried opposite her sister within Five's cemetery. Cordelia personally attended, even at her mental state, accompanied by local Peacekeepers. That year, the Cross family buried two children, heartbroken than most families. They would only learn to cope.

Twelfth Place: Fawn Asprey
District One
Kill Count: 0

Fawn's demise came at no shock. The audience could clearly see the plotting and waiting to destroy the inner-alliance, and with her stature, Fawn just wasn't going to survive. Her parents - Ballard and Pandora - were mournful. They were mocked for their status, but with a daughter in the Hunger Games, it was growing. Her "best friend" Vogue cried for four days straight after her death, and was unable to support Kit from Kingston Academy. Vogue would never realise that Fawn hated her; for now, it was okay. Her body was laid to rest at the local graveyard amongst the chrysanthemums.

Thirteenth Place: Anubis Cotton
District Eight
Kill Count: 2

Anubis was hated by most. His death came to no crying nor shock. He might've been driven and sadistically clever, but Anubis was Anubis and was his own worst enemy. He underestimated everyone because his ego took up too much room. His parents, Siri and Addilaye, admired their son and doted on him. Both broke down in tears after finding out about his death. Addilaye even cradled her son's lifeless corpse, begging for him to wake up. Despite his ill-treatment towards them, they loved him. Cremated and ashes scattered in a cotton field, Anubis would forever lay on the same Earth as everyone else - and he hated it.

Fourteenth Place: Ransom Denvir
District Two
Kill Count: 1

Ransom's death tore Lienza apart. Not for compassion, but because her last chance had disappeared. All of her children were dead. None of those brats had ever repaid her for carrying them for nine months, then caring for them for years. She didn't care. Ransom was burned quickly, ashes spread out as per District Two tradition. Lienza nor her husband, Baxter, attended. Tarzana Quake politely attended; Ransom's brother, Thief, had died when Tarzana survived. He was nothing more than another commodity for his mother. No-one would ever stop her as she stopped by the local orphanage.

Fifteenth Place: Nova Watts
District Three
Kill Count: 0

Nova was bright and curious, and like the saying, curiosity killed her. Both of her parents - Emett and Aretha - knew that they protected her too much, but the loss of another child would've been too much to handle. That overprotection led to Nova not being prepared enough for the dangerous and outside world, and they would forever beat themselves up about it. Aretha cried and Emett screamed; in their eyes, they were to blame. Her small body was laid to rest next to the brother that she never knew - together, they would pray that their parents wouldn't blame themselves. A year later, the house burned to the ground, taking their lives. No-one knew if it was an accident or suicide. No-one questioned it.

Sixteenth Place: Quinlan Nour
District Nine
Kill Count: 1

His father was angry. His son was meant to be a Career, not a loner, killed by something he was destined to be. Gerard thought his son would do well, he was proud after seeing him kill Challis without a second thought, but then he spiralled and actually begged for help. It was pathetic; a Career just didn't do that. Quinlan's mother, Ardere, wasn't as fussed as she should've been; she still had her daughter, Azelie, and that's all that mattered. They quickly cremated Quinlan's body and dumped his ashes on the way home from the crematorium. They wanted to move on as quickly as possible - Quinlan was nothing but a disappointment and never good enough.

Seventeenth Place: Lena Romero
District Eleven
Kill Count: 0

Lena's early demise shocked the orphanage she was growing up in. Many of the children at her like a surrogate mother, and like the mother she was dubbed, she cared for them equally. She would do everything she could to save them all; that's why there was no doubt that she was rigged into the Games to die. Sad and without their idol, many of the children were led astray, leading lives of crime and prostitution, anything to earn money and find that loving family. She was buried on orphanage grounds where a name would forever be a legend.

Eighteenth Place: Colton Dacanay
District Twelve
Kill Count: 0

Colton's death was nothing new to District Twelve. With a win the year before - and a reputation of winning every couple of decades - they just knew his chances were slim. Like every year, Peeta accompanied the coffins to the door. Colton's parents, Finley and Lisette, mourned their child openly, showing off his possessions in the family shop, telling the district how proud they were of their son after his heroic acts in the bloodbath. His sister Cendrine shed bitter tears, their relationship having never reformed.

Nineteenth Place: Ewan Cole
District Seven
Kill Count: 0

District Seven had high hopes for Ewan, and then, he was killed after standing up for his own ally. Sam, Ewan's father, took Ewan's body and had him cremated. Ewan's ashes were placed on the mantelpiece alongside his mother. Sam would constantly talk to the urns, taking comfort from his whole family still being with him. Years later, Peacekeepers would come to take Sam away, his mental disorder having grown out of control. In the fight, Ewan's urn would fall, and his ashes disappearing into the wind.

Twentieth Place: Ezra Zinnia
District Ten
Kill Count: 0

Seeing Ezra in his coffin was too much. His mother, Amaryllis, looked down on her child and remembered all the dangerous steps she took to make him happy. Taking care, she buried Ezra in the backyard. Serena Pierce offered to pay for a plaque placed on the large, looming tree. It read: Ezmae Zinnia, born a girl, died a man. Her mother couldn't have been prouder. Standing for her beliefs, she quit her job working for Mr Inex. Everyone in town never mourned Ezra's death; he was forgotten in the wind.

Twenty First Place: Fay Amaris
District Nine
Kill Count: 0

Fay's older brother Luke was torn apart. Her death was drawn out, long and torturous and Luke watched every minute, unable to believe that it was happening. He cried, just like at her reaping, taking her coffin and burying one night whilst drunk. Fay's biological mother, Carrie Dayn, cheered within the asylum. The devil-child had finally got what she deserved. From there, her mental condition worsened. Luke never came back to see her after one visit ended up with Carrie practically dancing on Fay's grave. In the blink of an eye, the Amaris family tore at the seams.

Twenty Second Place: Odette Leith
District Four
Kill Count: 0

Odette's parents - Triton and Aqua - were sad they lost their daughter. They had pushed her too far and never realised the actual price they would pay. Ironically, their biggest competitors in the fishing business were the Harlin's, whose child killed theirs. The competition only grew more tense and nasty after that. Odette was burned at sea - as per tradition - only a day after Percival. The major difference? People attended Odette, including her own family.

Twenty Third Place: Stellan Kingsley
District Five
Kill Count: 0

Stellan's death was nothing special nor strange. People were mainly upset about the situation involving the children. Stellan was the carer, father, mother and provider for all of his younger siblings. Without him, what would happen to them? The moment he was reaped, his siblings were quickly extracted from the house and placed in the local orphanage. Twins Hadley and Jason were quickly adopted by a young couple. The oldest, James, was scooped next, whilst Penny was never chosen. His coffin arrived at an empty house, and with nowhere to go, his body was burned and stored in the Capitol's facilities for abandoned tributes.

Twenty Fourth Place: Challis Glenley
District Eight
Kill Count: 0

"The Princess", many of the people who disliked her called her. She was rich, spoilt, and in a poor district, those things didn't win you favours. It was no surprise to her closest friends Dimity and Sarah when Challis was killed; she wasn't the brightest lightbulb, nor the strongest. Her father paid out for a lavish funeral, with flowers and a coffin lined in velvet. He brought a mausoleum, simply for her, because she was his princess always. Challis' name would forever live on as a reminder that money wasn't everything; it couldn't save you.
